For Now I Am Winter

Perhaps there is a link

between the temperature outside

and the feelings that bathe the heart.

For now I am winter.

There is certainly a communion

between our bodies

and the Full Moon –

the seas and the rivers turn red

crazed by passions

sometimes lived in dreams

even by creatures

other than lunatic humans.

The Full Moon in winter belongs to the wolves

just as our watery substance belongs to the Full Moon

just as seas

foamy in their neuralgic tides

press their bodies onto the flesh of the shore

over and over

the watery snow melts rivers in seas.

Perhaps for some

– hot heats up

cold freezes down –

certainly for others there is a measure

of compensation

to neutralize or to grow

or the other

burning heart –

For now I am winter.
